Lisbon, Na Officina Joaquinianna da Musica de D. Bernardo Fernandes Gayo, 1743.. 4°, disbound, text block edges rouged from an early binding. Woodcut vignette on title page. In good to very good condition. Old ink manuscript foliation ("340-343") in upper outer corners of each leaf recto. (4 ll.) *** Second edition of this sonnet ("Não dezejes mais honras, que as virtudes ...") with a gloss, advising humility, generosity, helping those in need, etc. The first edition, with 14 pp., appeared in Lisbon, 1741. According to Barbosa Machado, the author of this sonnet with poetic gloss was Guilherme José de Carvalho Bandeira (born Lisbon, 1714), army officer of noble birth serving at Setubal. He wrote other works, none of which were published. *** Not in Martinho da Fonseca, Pseudónimos. Not located in Innocêncio. Barbosa Machado II, 422, cites the first edition. Porbase locates a copy at the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal; also the 1741 first edition there and at the Universidade Nova Lisboa-Faculdade Ciências Sociais e Humanas. Not located in Jisc. KVK (51 databases searched) locates only the copies cited by Porbase.
