First printing (stated first edition with E-O code) The first of two posthumous novels by Wolfe, delivered to his publisher shortly before his death - the story of a writer in New York City. In his prefatory note, Wolfe calls it a novel "about one man's discovery of life and the world. . . being young, and in love, and in the city are only part of the whole adventure of apprenticeship and discovery." 695 pp.
