About This Item

Philadelphia: Jewish Publication Society, 1969. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Several textual illustrations. Biography of the Jewish frontiersman who served as the official artist and photographer on Fremont's fifth expedition. Carvalho broke off from the expedition after the near tragic crossing of the Rocky Mountains, recuperating in Utah where he recorded scenes of the Mormons and Indians before traveling to Los Angeles where he helped to establish the local Jewish community. Some mild fading along the extremities of the blue cloth binding, with a bit of occasional light rubbing and edgewear to the dust jacket. A crisp and clean, very good or better copy.
