The top and bottom edges are cut, the fore edge rough uncut. Bright red cloth boards with gilt spine lettering and a spouting whale on the front cover Includes sixty plates of Whaleships famous in New Bedford, including the Charles Morgan pictured at Round Hills (sic) South Dartmouth, MA., and the Bark California. A very solid and collectible copy. No internal markings or imprints, very clean. Ashley also wrote The Ashley Book of Knots and The Yankee Whaler. He resided in Westport MA. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
