About This Item
Kansas City, MO: The Lowell Press, 1993 The Lowell Press, Kansas City, MO. 1993. Hardcover. First Edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Near Fine; light bumping to head and tail. DJ: Near Fine; NOT Price Clipped ($19.95); light bumping to head and tail; light smudge on rear panel. Beige cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine and front board. Green endpapers. 130 pp 8vo. This is the account of a white officer in command of 140 black soldiers of the 3871 QM Truck Company who fought in Europe in WWII. The book is full of humorous stories that lighten the mood a little as these soldiers worked in the last vestiges of racism that existed in the segregated U.S. Army at that time. Their journey took them from basic training in Mississippi and took them to England, Wales, France, and Germany. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
