Part of The Studies in Communication Series. Slater 742. With a card signed by Quine laid in. The card measures 7.5 c.m. x 12.5 c.m. W.V.O. Quine was a distinguished philosopher who spent the majority of his career at Harvard and was widely recognized as one of the leading analytic philosophers of his era. A student of Carnap, Quine was an extraordinarily influential analytic philosopher, known for propagating the Verification Theory of Meaning, empiricism, and the examination of philosophical problems using scientific principles. Word and Object explores how human language affects ontology and our objective understanding of the world, how words refer to their objects, translation and indeterminacy, language and logic, and more. A nice copy of this well-known work from one of the most important philosophers of the twentieth century. Jacket lightly toned on its spine panel, and with a few closed tears.

Synopsis

Word and Object is a 1960 book of epistemology by Willard Van Orman Quine. In it, Quine develops his thesis of the Indeterminacy of translation.
