About This Item
London: William Heineman, 1921. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A good copy from the library of Sir C. H. St. John Hornby with his bookplate to inside of front board. Bound in original cloth with paper label, a little rubbed, to spine. A nice presentation inscription to title page to "Mrs Hornby in remembrance and gratitude for the recovery of my watch on Oct 20 1924 at The Ambassadors' Theatre and hoping this book may not untimely waste one of your leisure hours. J. T. Grein". Hornby was partner of the well known company of stationers and booksellers W.H. Smith and owner of the renowned Ashendene Press. The Subiaco type used by the Ashendene Press was designed by Sir Emery Walker and S. C. Cockerell from an early Italian typeface. The Ashendene Press, which set all of its editions by hand, issued 40 books in the years from 1895 to 1915 and from 1920 to 1935..
