About This Item
New York: Crown Publishers Inc., 1966. Cloth. Near Fine/Good. 13" by 10". Various. A very smart, bright copy of this collection of artwork from the twentieth century, translated from the original French. Dated from the University of Oxford Libraries. Illustrated throughout with one hundred and fourteen plates in colour and eighty-four drawings in two-tones. Collated complete. A vibrant history of art with specific focus on drawing and watercolour. Becoming a commentary on these art-forms, the influence of free techniques from the end of the nineteenth century, Expressionism and the new schools of Cubism and Futurism as well as poetry and intelligence. Includes references to special trends of women, fashion, interior design, advertising, and sculptors' drawings. Written by Raymond Cogniat, a French art critic, historian of art, journalist, and theatre design expert. Translated from the French by Anne Ross, a British translator. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is smart with light shelf wear and minor chipping resulting in light loss to the head of the spine and the bottom of the front board. The odd small closed tear or crease to the extremities. Sympathetic repairs and reinforcement to the internal side of the wrap with paper tape. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark to the endpapers. Near Fine
