B&w frontispiece plate 1st Edition (dated 1949 to title page with no other publication details) of Richard Ellmann's definitive study of the life and work of Yeats; b&w frontispiece plate with tissue-guard, from the portrait of Yeats by Augustus John; green cloth boards with gilt titling to spine; heavy foxing to endpapers and prelims, bookshop label front pastedown, tissue-guard tanned (and with offset from same to title page), creases top corners of last 2-3 pages, o.w. Very Good throughout; dustwrapper edgeworn and rubbed, minor loss to head of spine, tanning around edges front and rear, and along spine.
