About This Item
The image, an Austro-Hungarian soldier of the Great War sits in the window of probably a train to the front and inspecting the map in the newspaper "Pesti Hírlap", occupies the upper two-third of the poster within a black border. The title "Pesti Hírlap" in red is integrated and positioned across the top edge of the blue background of the image. The text under the image in white and green reads as "a világháború leghűbb krónikása naponta közöl a hadihelyzetet ismertető pontos térképeket és szakszerű magyarázatokat" (the most faithful chronicler of the world war presents accurate maps and professional comments).
There are two known variants of the poster. The other version differs from our copy in the green part of the text, that reads "naponta a hivatalos jelentések alapján pontos térképeket és szenzációs ismertetéseket közöl" (presents accurate maps and sensational surveys each day, following official reports). Our version is the scarcer.
Géza Faragó (1877-1928) was the greatest Hungarian master of the graphic art in Art Nouveau style.
