Complete in two volumes. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with pictorial gilt detail. With twelve beautiful illustrations, all coloured by hand, by S. Alken. Collated complete. A fascinating historical account of the hobbies, sports and pastimes which were popular in London from the 17th century to the beginning of the nineteenth century. With sections on the Marylebone Bear Garden, women sword-fighters, London theatre and sporting houses. In the original, full cloth binding. Externally, smart with shelf wear to the extremities. Fading and marks to the boards and spine, heavier on the binding of volume one. Small tears to the hinges of volume one, but still very firm. Light marks to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with some spotting towards the front and some handling marks throughout. Spotting around the plates. Several pages are uncut throughout. Spotting to the fore-edge. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
