Well written reflections & opinions on game management, hunting &, outdoor life in New Mexico & Alaska, where the author was warden & wildlife officer. The author is also a pilot & some of the vignettes written in this book take place from the vantage point of the air. Fine , as new in dj.

Collectible Near Fine/Good. 1st printing, but advance copy with bound in page, "Presentation Edition especially selected for our friends in the book trade" and signed on that page, "Greetings / Mari Sandoz. Cloth with gilt-stamped spine. . 372pp. Illus. Map. Notes. Bibliography. Endpaper maps of the great plains from Texas to the Dakotas showing "Four Great Buffalo Herds." The map misspelled the North Dakota city, Bismarck, as Bismark as per the "point" for a first issue. Fine in complete, but pc dj, that has tears on the back panel repaired with old tape on the inside. The dj has a couple of minor and does show some wear. We still easily grade the dj "good" in spite of the old repaired tears on the back.

Quickly o-p in this first cloth edition. Fine in dj.

The hinges have been professionally repaired & binding tightened. fos of H. L. Stimson in 1906 on ffep. Because of where I purchased this copy years ago (Wash., D. C.), this could very well have been the Stimson who was Sect'y of State (Hoover) & Sect'y of War (Roosevelt, 2nd term) & who had many other positions and honors. Looking at several autographs of Stimson leads me to believe so. Near fine. "A classic account of a zoological expedition ... Includes as well much on big game hunting in British Columbia. "The subject of hunting ducks and other waterfowl is here given an interesting popular treatment... In addition to covering the topic very fully, the book also features an appetizing recipe for the author's favority dish --- ducks and spaghetti." The author/artist was born in Nebraska in 1883, but moved to Washington. Fine in dj. Beautifully designed & printed book. A short handful of minute edge tears, barely worth mentioning.

Illustrated with the Consolidated Fur Corp masthead drawing of polar bears with sun's rays behind them. Gives price list of seventeen fur bearing animals plus wild cat & house cat, differing values according to various grades of quality & size. Included info on the company, an ad for traps, animal bait, & a few other odds & ends. 3 1/2" split at top of one fold. Vg condition. Scarce early 20th Century trapping item.

Many copies look like the first, but do not have the required statement, so buyer beware.

Owner's gift inscription from parents on ffep, at "Xmas" 1913. A classic on the subject. Note to buyer: Scribners did not start using the "A" indicating 1st edition until 1930. This copy meets earlier qualifications for1st edition. This copy very good with moderate wear to extremities - boards just showing at points & spine corners. The hinges were professionally repaired & the copy is thus in excellent, tight condition for handling/reading. A reasonably bright copy, but not bright "as new." Scarce.

Small 8vo. 197pp. Wonderfully descriptive drawings showing, step by step, how to pack a mule, horse, or I suppose donkey. Index. Several pages in rear of other Outing publications. On the ffep in bold ink is the ownership writing of "Randolf Russell -- / Troup "C" / No 311 / November 1914 / (ink drawn line/device) / Squadron A, Cavalry, N. G., N.Y." On the facing front paste down is Russell's ink address stamp, "Randolph Russell / West New Brighton / Staten Island - N. Y." A truly remarkable procedure book with many drawings showing the animal from above and how the ropes, etc., are looped and tied. Vg. Although reprinted, very, very scarce in the first edition. A real prize with the accompanying ownership information.

It has the recipient's name on it, but may not be by the recipient. Covers quite thoroughly foxed. Tiny label on bottom of spine. No dj. Reading copy but collectible because of inscription. Very scarce title nonetheless.

Otherwise textually complete with each province represented town by town with available game & fish & fowl, places to stay, and fishing/hunting guides. The province of Quebec has a map. Except for the map, very good copy.

For some reason, most copies of this book has a worn, chipped dj. The dj on this copy is one of the best I've seen, with only minor wear on the edges. Tiny dj flap clips done by the publisher/binder.

Thus on a given page's map you will find pheasant, raccoon, bunny rabbits, coyotes, wolves, or fox, grouse, squirrels, white-tailed deer, bobcat, black bear, and various fishes in the adjacent Great Lakes. The front cover is yellow, orange, red, blue, and green & is illustrated with a fisherman & a hunter. In the middle is an arrowhead emblem with a Native American in it painting pictographs on a cliff side. Inside front cover: photos.
