C & A Conrad; Conrad, Lucas & Co., Somervell & Conrad; Bonsal, Conrad & Co, 1807. Hardcover. Very Good. Red leather spine over marbled paper-covered boards, gilt lettering and rules to spine, edges untrimmed, 9" tall, 186 pp, 120 pp, 220 pp. Rubbing to joints and covers, minor foxing and discoloration, but generally quite clean and solid. The first volume of this work edited by America's seminal novelist, and includes his Annals of Europe and America. This volume is of particular important to the Pacific Northwest with three early references to the Lewis & Clark [Clarke] expedition: p. 183 in the Review of Literature, p. 82 in American State Papers, and p. 198 in Poetry. This last is "On the Discoveries of Captain Lewis" by Joel Barlow, the highly regarded poet who helped Paine publish "Age of Reason" while he (Paine) was in jail.
