First edition of this finely printed Victorian chromolithograph calendar for the famed Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States during the Gilded Age. Incorporated in 1859, the Equitable Life Assurance society was known for decades as one of the largest life insurance companies in the country, and maintained a vast sales force. These independent agents actively cultivated clients, and advertised heavily through calendars, greeting cards, brochures, and other printed mediums.

First edition, signed, of this culminating volume to Sinnott’s scarce and detailed history of Sierra County, composed of Downieville, Gold Town on the Yuba; Sierra City and Goodyears Bar; Alleghany & Forest City; Sierra Valley; and “Over North”. This general history includes sections on the geological history of the Sierra Nevada, formation of Sierra County, early statistics, mining problems, bridges of Downieville, along with an excellent section on mining in Sierra County from the Great Depression to the 1970’s. Information is based not only 1000’s of newspaper accounts, and government filings, but also extensive interviews and oral histories with Sierra County pioneers and descendants.

One original silver gelatin photograph, sized 7.4 x 9.5 in. and mounted on gray cardstock, signed in pencil below image, hand-painted in colour (minor toning to matte, very slight edgewear), NF exemplar. First edition of this scarce “Colorgraph” image by Fred H. Kiser, an accomplished mountaineer and promoter who was one of the most successful and widely known landscape and commercial photographers in the American West during the opening decades of the 20th century. He and his brother Oscar operated the Lewis and Clark Official Photographic Company at the Exposition which gave them their start, and he became well known for his images of National Parks, and the picturesque Columbia River Gorge.

First edition of this well-illustrated hand book and program for the Epworth League, a Methodist young adult association, which details the sights and adventures in pre-1906 San Francisco prior to the Great Earthquake and Fire. The photos illustrate many of the buildings and businesses lost in the disaster, and provides a fantastic insight into the wonders of late Victorian California.
