A very good copy, the binding square and tight with a little wear to board edges and corners. The contents with some very occasional light foxing are otherwise in very good order throughout. An attractive French edition of Robinson Crusoe, wonderfully illustrated by J. J. Grandville.

Nicely bound in contemporary half purple-brown morocco over purple-brown pebble-grained cloth boards, the spine with six raised bands, ruled in gilt, and with titles in gilt. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and title page and 38 further plates by Halbot Knight Browne (aka 'Phiz'). Extra-illustrated with 12 additional plates by Browne depicting the principal characters of the novel (52 engraved plates in total). Two-line errata page bound in after the list of plates. Lacks half-title. A good copy, the binding square and firm with some marking to the boards and bumping to the corners. Pale marbled endpapers. Illustrated with an engraved portrait frontispiece, with tissue-guard, and 39 further engraved plates by Halbot Knight Browne (aka 'Phiz'). Lacking the half-title. A very good copy, the binding square and tight. The contents with spotting to the plates (heavier to some), two plates with minor tears neatly repaired with tissue verso, and a stain to the bottom margin of one plate, are otherwise in good order. The first edition in book form of Dickens's third novel, originally issued in parts between 1838 and 1839, smartly bound for Sotheran's of London during the early twentieth century.

Accompanied by a 41pp. introductory booklet (publisher's original card wrappers with French flaps). Both contained within the publisher's original full tan calf sleeve with exposed stitching, clasp, and blind-stamped title and printed title label to the spine. A very good copy, the binding firm with slight bowing to the vellum boards. The contents with a few small marks to the edges of the textblock and tanning to the endpapers are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout. The introductory booklet with a couple of minor marks to the front cover is also very good.
