Spine faded, still solidly bound, internals quite nice. Harvard educated Horace Ainsworth Eaton (1871-1958) was de Quincey scholarly authority and chairman of the English Department at Syracuse University for most of his career.

Old, tree calf, half of black spine label chipped away, internals darkened throughout with obvious foxing. Solid binding. An unsophisticated version of the first American edition, which, though not uncommon in university collections, is not as commonly seen in trade as its British copies.

Architectural treatise and house plan by modernist theorist architect Eisenman, inscribed by him to Mike McCabe, owner of the former Lion's Head Books (now the premises of Johnnycake Books) in Salisbury CT. Eisenman designed and built at least two modernist structures in NW Connecticut when he was at Yale and would frequent McCabe's bookstore located in the small town of Salisbury there. Inscribed on the title page: "11 Apr 83 FOR MIKE FROM: PETER for my favorite bookstore anywhere! Peter Eisenman" Laid-in are pull sheets from Progressive Architecture June 1977 which has a pictorial review of one of the House VI which Eisenman built in Cornwall CT, just southeast of Salisbury. American architect Peter Eisenman's deconstruction of a theoretical residential structure,  desrcibed in an illutsrated 24 page booklet with text by Nina Hoffer and Jeffrey  Kipniss and 14 embossed plates printed on white stock and 14 silk-screened color plates printed on grey stock showing the planar dissection of its structure.  All presented in 12.25" square clamshell with titles stamped in pink, which match the pink ribbon pulls for the inserts.  The whole production designed by Massimo Vignelli.  Published on the occasion of an exhibition held at the Architectural Association from February 20th to March 23rd 1985.  A fine copy, and rather uncommon these days.

Booklet, limited to 100 copies, undated (c1946), hand printed by Larry Jordan, measures approx 5x4", 32 pages, thick tan paper, string bound. with a copy of a drawing in front by Eisenstein followed by 31 silver print stills from Eisenstein's film masterpiece. Eisenstein, regarded as the greatest of Russian film directors, died in 1948 before Part II could be filmed. Covers which were separated from binding have been reapplied to binding. Scarce.

Presentation copy from the Roumanian-born religion-historian and philosopher to Winthrop Sargeant, The New Yorker music critic and translator and scholar of the Baghavad Gita. Inscribed on the cover, with quarter sheet of Sargeant's pencilled notes laid in. Together with three other reprints of Eliade's lectures, one with Sargeants's pencilled notes on cover page.

Stamped cloth with pictorial pastedown impressively well-preserved in uncommon dustjacket which is moderately soiled and chipped. Quite presentable. Part of Little Brown's Young Folk's Book series, typical of American juvenile series of the 1920s.

Djs with chipping at spine ends. Placemarking ribbons present, but detached. No previous owner signatures or inscriptions.

Advance copy with advance copy label from publisher with the release date of March 10 1950 and $3.00 price affixed to ffe. Black cloth, spine titles stamped in gold. Gallup A55b: "The publishers state that 'about ten copies' (at most)'" escaped cancellation at pages 35-36; this copy is one of those, and scarce thus. Some offsetting to front and rear endpapers with outline of dustjacket flaps, which are lightly discolored. Faint discoloration to head of spine dustjacket with some shallow wear. Cloth over boards and internal leaves quite nice. $6,000.
