New York: Farrar, Straus and Co., 1948. First edition. Her first book. Loosely based on her childhood in an affluent California neighborhood. Good to very good with usual darkening of the pages, small tear near hinge of half-title page mended with archival tape on verso, hint of sticker shadow on front endpaper which is backed with old tape, two inconspicuous damp stains to page edges not extending to pages, pages 111-118 showing shallow chips along lower edges, and spine ends and corners rubbed. In about very good dust jacket with few tiny chips, internal archival-tape mends to two thumb-nail tears (spine and front flap fold), and spine a little toned. From the collection of sports writer Paul "Dr. Z" Zimmerman with his penciled notations on rear endpaper.

Marlan Beilke notes on the verso that "Many of the exotic stones affixed to Hawk Tower were gifts of [Blanche], so that it is minor hyperbole only to state that [together they] 'built the tower of the hawk'."
