Octavo; publisher's plain blue stitched wrappers; 40pp. ([A]-E4, collated complete). Shallow loss at spine ends, textblock a bit dust-soiled and slightly ragged along margins, contemporary ownership inscription at head of title page of the "Revd. Mr. Strong of Norwich," else a Very Good, sound copy overall. New Year's sermon already nostalgically looking back to the glorious past, especially that peak year 1798 when Washington was still alive and Adams was president: "God knows what scenes are to follow! WASHINGTON is called to the world of spirits, and ADAMS will soon resign the high office which he now holds to another" (p. 17). SABIN 39181.

Biography of the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, published five years after the kingdom's overthrow and the same year Hawai'i was annexed by the United States. Includes history of the monarchy, the story of Liliʻuokalani's trial and imprisonment, and stories of her interactions and negotiations with Presidents Grover Cleveland and William McKinley. Scarce in retail at time of this writing in February 2023.
