Cruttenden, 1684. First English edition. Octavo (6 7/8 x 4 1/4 inches; 174 x 109 mm). [56], 272, pp. Frontispiece portrait of Nepos. Full contemporary speckled brown calf, ruled in blind. Red morocco spine label, lettered in gilt. Spine elaborately stamped in gilt. Edges speckled in red. Boards and spine a bit rubbed. A two inch split at the bottom outer hinge of the front board and a three-quarter inch split at the top outer hinge of the front board. A previous owner's book plate of front pastedown. A very good copy. "Cornelius Nepos, A Roman historian, a friend of Atticus and Catullus. His chief work was 'De Viris Illustribus', of which part survives."
