Postmarks range from 1933-1941, and the printed notes are uniformly formated. A few examples: "USS Maryland, BB-46, Battleship. Hit by two bombs. Shot down one torpedo plane." -- and -- "USS Reid, DD-369, Destroyer. Fired at enemy planes, helping to shoot down one." Envelopes also include the occasional handwritten address (many are typed) and decorations celebrating St. Patrick's Day, the New Year, Independence Day, and more. Francofurti & Lipsiae: Esaiae Fellgibelii, 1665. Hardcover. Good+. Period paper-covered boards; 16mo (93 x 160 mm); pp. [44], 962, [2], plus 10 engraved plates (7 of them folding). Title-page printed in red and black. Lacking the frontispiece. Backstrip torn and binding broken. Contemporary notation inked discreetly on title-p., and some underlining here and there; but text block, and plates in particular, are overall nice and clean. Sold as is. An important early work on crustaceans.

Woodcut printer’s device of fleur-de lis. Dedicated Thomas Gadagne of Lyon. With commentary by Élie Vinet (1509-1587), humanist of Bordeaux, and Giovanni Pierio Valeriano Bolzani. Numerous in-text woodcut illustrations and astronomical diagrams; but lacking the volvelles. Contemporary limp vellum; (recased, endpapers renewed; slight marginal dampstaining and occasional browning). Early 17th-century ownership inscriptions and names to title in Latin, “Canonici” could refer to “Canon” teachings and suggests a student association. The date “1642” is written on the bottom fore-edge and “1781” on the top fore-edge of the book, perhaps giving a range to this association. First English Edition, and the first containing the translator's preface. Lovely contemporary morocco binding, panels in gilt, spines richly gilt, a.e.g. Some small repairs, external strengthening to joints; still a very good copy. Now a scarce book indeed. The essay presents examples of friendship in classical and Biblical antiquity for contemporary edification.

Paris, 1845. Hardcover. Fair. Atlas volume to the rare botanical section of this multi-volume rare work dedicated to Cuba. Half-title and 122 engraved plates (20 hand-colored). Folio, lightly worn in a later half calf binding. Worming throughout, varying in heaviness (occasionally adds a poetic effect). Nevertheless, sold as is.

Scattered stains, mainly to margins and outer portions of the page, primarily at the beginning and right at the end; some contemporary underscorring. Text in Latin. Copinger 4054; Willems 412n. Edited by Marcus Zuerius Boxhorn (1612-1653). This printing is one of Bonaventura and Abraham Elzevir's famed pocket editions of Latin classics, initiated in 1629 during an expansion of the press. The aim was to ensure wide circulation of accurate texts for everyday use, and the books were printed with engraved title-pages, narrow margins, and a distinctive font of type, cut by Christoffel van Dijck, whose influence on subsequent typographers endured well into the 19th century.
