In five parts with five folding map, backed onto cloth. Each of these map are held in the original slipcase. The maps are titled as follows: North; S. West; S. East; E. Central; W. Central. In the publisher's original binding, held in a restored slipcase. Externally the slipcase is heavily rubbed to the extremities, with patches of loss to the extremities. Large tide mark to the front board, to the label to the front board. Each of the folding maps are in good condition, with light spotting and the odd small tide marks to the rear board. Four disbound maps. Each of the maps are neatly split in two halves. The maps are numbered as follows with to consecutive maps numbered LVII, LVIII, LXX and LXXI. Each of the maps are to the scale of 6 inches to 1 mile. Though the original source of these maps are unknown each are dated as published in the year 1878, with 1 published 30th November, and the following 3 on 31st October. The maps each entitled Sussex show parts of the county, including the coast, and areas such as Hastings and East Ward. Despite being split into half and detached, each of the maps are in very good condition. To the reverse of each map there are numerous library stamps and ink inscriptions, including library numbers. Blue cloth hardback with blind embossed covers, there are gilt titles on the spine. There is a half title page and title page followed by a Dedication of Lord Lyndhurst. Blackwood's Magazine was a British magazine and miscellany printed between 1817 and 1980. It was founded by the publisher William Blackwood and was originally called the Edinburgh Monthly Magazine. The first number appeared in April 1817 under the editorship of Thomas Pringle and James Cleghorn. The journal was unsuccessful and Blackwood fired Pringle and Cleghorn and relaunched the journal as Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine under his own editorship. An important historical work be a report from the commission of claims from the mid-19th century, this work discusses the seizure of slave ships during the presidency of Franklin Pierce. A very scarce volume featuring a report from the U.S. Senates claim proceedings. Published in 1856, the volume is a report of decisions made under the convention of February 1853 between the United States and Great Britain. These findings were transmitted to the senate by the President in August of 1856. The then president was Franklin Pierce, a northern Democrat opposed to the abolitionist movement. It was in 1856, the same year of this works publication that Pierce failed to be renominated by his own party to run for the presidential election.
