Four disbound maps. Each of the maps are neatly split in two halves. The maps are numbered as follows with to consecutive maps numbered LVII, LVIII, LXX and LXXI. Each of the maps are to the scale of 6 inches to 1 mile. Though the original source of these maps are unknown each are dated as published in the year 1878, with 1 published 30th November, and the following 3 on 31st October. The maps each entitled Sussex show parts of the county, including the coast, and areas such as Hastings and East Ward. Blue cloth hardback with blind embossed covers, there are gilt titles on the spine. There is a half title page and title page followed by a Dedication of Lord Lyndhurst. Blackwood's Magazine was a British magazine and miscellany printed between 1817 and 1980. It was founded by the publisher William Blackwood and was originally called the Edinburgh Monthly Magazine. The first number appeared in April 1817 under the editorship of Thomas Pringle and James Cleghorn. Very scarce in physical form. The Yorkshire Philosophical Society or YPS was founded in 1822, with the aim of promoting public engagement with natural and social sciences. The term 'philosophical' is meant as 'scientific' as per the early 19th century definition of the word. The society itself sets out an extensive lecture program throughout the year, publishing an annual report collating this information. The society is still active to this day, and organises numerous lectures throughout the year and are open to the generally public. With one illustrated plate to the rear of 1887 report.
