Bound in green cloth, Golden treasury series logo in gold on front board, pale green endpapers, vignette on title page, 464pp. The book was first entered by the Stationer's Company in 1596 entitled, " Essayes, Religious Meditations, places of perswasion and disswasion. Seene and allowed ". the edition reproduced here is dated 1624, by which time Francis Bacon had become Viscount St. Alban. The second book, " The Coulers of Good and Evill. A fragment ", is a reproduction of the 1597 edition. A section of " Notes " runs from p.289 to p.428 and is followed by an alphabetical glossary which gives today's meaning of the late 16th. Ct. words in the text. The book has been respined, the binding repaired and returned to the original binding. Rear board is slightly proud. New endpapers
