Novelist Ian Fleming chose Jamaica as his second home, writing his James Bond adventures at his North Shore retreat each winter, many of which were set on the island. As a working journalist, he also wrote widely on the country, it's history, culture and politics, this being one of his earliest examples. With Cape's lilac review slip inserted, with bold logo and printed publication details. Contents and edges clean and fresh, appears unread. Jacket gently handled with a few inevitable (light) marks to the susceptible foil surface. A fine example. Jon Gilbert's copy, with his pencilled notes and ownership to front endpaper. Advance copies are scarce, this being the only copy seen by the bibliographer. The eye-catching '70s jacket is printed in the 'Dufex' process, whereby a metallic foil is imprinted with a design or image via litho printing. Gilbert E4 (1).

Publisher's hardback cloth binding in dust-jacket, priced at $5.95. Very near fine. This copy has an interesting provenance, having belonged initially to bibliographer Donald Gallup, then sold by respected San Franciscan bookseller Peter Howard/Serendipity Book Shop (with his handwritten note within) to Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert (pencilled ownership to half title). Connolly was a friend and colleague of ian Fleming, and was commissioned by The London Magazine (run by another friend of Fleming, Alan Ross) to write this Bond parody / tribute. It appeared in April 1963 in magazine form and later in 1963 published separately in a softcover edition of only 50 copies. This is the first U.S. hardback edition. Gilbert, pp.608-9, 638, 671.

Includes rarely-seen photographs, some of which are topless/glamour shots, some from 'Never Say Never Again' alongside the official series from Eon, and many of the photos were unauthorised; subsequently the book was withdrawn and it is now a rarity. From the comprehensive Ian Fleming Bibliographical Archive assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled note and signature to pastedown. His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography.

Jonathan Cape and Hodder & Stoughton Ltd., 1986. Comprising the complete text in 295 numbered pages on A4 sheets, printed to the rectos only. Loose leaves, housed in a simple card folder. In near-fine condition, with the occasional fold and crease to folios. The corrected manuscript of the 1986 James Bond continuation novel, signed by the author and inscribed by him to the first leaf: "final, edited ms." Each leaf, without exception, is heavily annotated in various hands and inks. The manuscript is complete, with all preliminary and title pages included. This item was purchased directly from the author shortly before his death in 2007 and is from the significant Ian Fleming collection of Martin Schøyen (b.1940), with his bookplate. Schøyen's private collection of manuscripts, which span all cultures and all time periods, is one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind.
