Later printing with 'why' as the last word on page 27 whereas earlier printings had 'egad'.

New York: Conde Nast Publications, Inc. April 1st 1951. [Travel / leisure] FIRST APPEARANCE of this original article by Ian Fleming. Pp.186. Magazine format, fully illustrated. Original price 50c. Some light wear, with a few small chips to covers. Very good. Featuring a six-page article on Jamaica, illustrated with photographs by Fleming's friend Cecil Beaton. Novelist Ian Fleming chose Jamaica as his second home, writing his James Bond adventures at his North Shore retreat each winter, many of which were set on the island. As a working journalist, he also wrote widely on the country, it's history, culture and politics, this being one of his earliest examples. From the comprehensive collection assembled by Jon Gilbert (pencilled signature within). His comprehensive guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. London: Jonathan Cape, 1973. [Spy novels] FIRST CAPE EDITION, ADVANCE REVIEW COPY of the first James Bond omnibus to be published in the UK. Bibliographer's copy. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.748. Publisher's cloth-effect paper over boards, blocked in gilt to the spine, in the metallic-effect dust-wrapper printed in black and red, priced at £2.50. With Cape's lilac review slip inserted, with bold logo and printed publication details. Contents and edges clean and fresh, appears unread. Jacket gently handled with a few inevitable (light) marks to the susceptible foil surface. A fine example. Jon Gilbert's copy, with his pencilled notes and ownership to front endpaper. Advance copies are scarce, this being the only copy seen by the bibliographer. The eye-catching '70s jacket is printed in the 'Dufex' process, whereby a metallic foil is imprinted with a design or image via litho printing. Gilbert E4 (1).

Contents clean, page edges toned, some very light edge wear to wrapper. Near fine in similar jacket. Amis' first venture into the world of James Bond. New York: Harper & Row, 1963. [Literature] FIRST AMERICAN HARDCOVER EDITION, following the UK magazine appearance and a Limited Edition printing in wraps. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.414. Publisher's hardback cloth binding in dust-jacket, priced at $5.95. Very near fine. This copy has an interesting provenance, having belonged initially to bibliographer Donald Gallup, then sold by respected San Franciscan bookseller Peter Howard/Serendipity Book Shop (with his handwritten note within) to Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert (pencilled ownership to half title). Connolly was a friend and colleague of ian Fleming, and was commissioned by The London Magazine (run by another friend of Fleming, Alan Ross) to write this Bond parody / tribute. It appeared in April 1963 in magazine form and later in 1963 published separately in a softcover edition of only 50 copies. This is the first U.S. hardback edition. Gilbert, pp.608-9, 638, 671.

Publisher's colour-illustrated soft covers. A lovely fine copy. A paperback original. Seventeen scholars examine hidden philosophical issues in the hazardous, deceptive and glamourous world of Double-0 Seven. This copy is from the collection of Ian Fleming bibliographer Otto Penzler, purchased by ourselves at Swann Auctions in 2010, with a pencil note to that effect signed by his bookseller friend and colleague Jon Gilbert. Publisher's photographic hardcovers. Text in French (no English language edition was published). A decent example showing some light handling, corners a little bumped as often found; near fine. Includes rarely-seen photographs, some of which are topless/glamour shots, some from 'Never Say Never Again' alongside the official series from Eon, and many of the photos were unauthorised; subsequently the book was withdrawn and it is now a rarity. From the comprehensive Ian Fleming Bibliographical Archive assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his pencilled note and signature to pastedown. An uncommon item of 'Bondiana' by the Australian author and journalist, a regular columnist with the popular UK film magazine 'Starburst.'.

This copy is from the comprehensive bibliographical archive assembled by Jon Gilbert, with his loose bookplate and pencil ownership. His encyclopaedic guide to the works of Ian Fleming (2012) won the 16th Breslauer Prize for bibliography. Gilbert, p.611, 'Further Reading'.

Jonathan Cape and Hodder & Stoughton Ltd., 1986. Comprising the complete text in 295 numbered pages on A4 sheets, printed to the rectos only. Loose leaves, housed in a simple card folder. In near-fine condition, with the occasional fold and crease to folios. The corrected manuscript of the 1986 James Bond continuation novel, signed by the author and inscribed by him to the first leaf: "final, edited ms." Each leaf, without exception, is heavily annotated in various hands and inks. The manuscript is complete, with all preliminary and title pages included. This item was purchased directly from the author shortly before his death in 2007 and is from the significant Ian Fleming collection of Martin Schøyen (b.1940), with his bookplate. Schøyen's private collection of manuscripts, which span all cultures and all time periods, is one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind. With numerous photographs from the previous three Bond films (some in colour) and accompanying text. Publisher's colour-illustrated soft covers, stapled twice. Lightly handled; near fine. Published to accompany the hit James Bond film based on the novel by Ian Fleming. Sold in cinema foyers and newsagents during the initial run of the film, these are now rather scarce. Includes Roderick Mann's biographical essay on Ian Fleming entitled The Man Who Created Bond. See Gilbert, section J, p.594. See also colour plate opp. p.599.
