Advance copies are scarce, this being the only copy seen by the bibliographer. This copy has an interesting provenance, having belonged initially to bibliographer Donald Gallup, then sold by respected San Franciscan bookseller Peter Howard/Serendipity Book Shop (with his handwritten note within) to Fleming bibliographer Jon Gilbert (pencilled ownership to half title). Connolly was a friend and colleague of ian Fleming, and was commissioned by The London Magazine (run by another friend of Fleming, Alan Ross) to write this Bond parody / tribute. It appeared in April 1963 in magazine form and later in 1963 published separately in a softcover edition of only 50 copies. This is the first U.S. hardback edition. Gilbert, pp.608-9, 638, 671.

In near-fine condition, with the occasional fold and crease to folios. The corrected manuscript of the 1986 James Bond continuation novel, signed by the author and inscribed by him to the first leaf: "final, edited ms." Each leaf, without exception, is heavily annotated in various hands and inks. The manuscript is complete, with all preliminary and title pages included. This item was purchased directly from the author shortly before his death in 2007 and is from the significant Ian Fleming collection of Martin Schøyen (b.1940), with his bookplate. Schøyen's private collection of manuscripts, which span all cultures and all time periods, is one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind.
