Twice stamped by St. Francis Xavier College Library, 1847 (NY) on p. 98 and final leaf. First Edition of this rare manual on the history of Spanish handwriting. Excellent small and handy survival as such reference works are not easy to come by, often issued in small runs and tending to be well used. Spine tips and corners very gently rubbed; a little of the white lettering rubbed away from spine; contemporary ownership signature (J. Mabel Harrington) pencilled on FFEP. Dust jacket, lightly rubbed and dust-soiled; chipped at spine tips (affecting some of the lettering at crown) and corners, neatly mended with tape. A nice copy, in the very scarce dust jacket, of this popular novel. An unlikely survival, especially in such nice condition.

Buffalo, New York: Willis L. Gregory, n.d. (19th century). Ephemera. Fine. Pamphlet; single leaf (8.25x6 inches, open); folded once, printed on all 4 "pages" with dosages of Syrup of Dover's Powder, as submitted by local doctors. Dover's powder was a traditional medicine against cold and fever developed by Thomas Dover. It is no longer in use in modern medicine, but may have been in use at least through the 1960s. Named from Doctor Thomas Dover, an English physician of the eighteenth century who first prepared it, the powder was an old preparation of powder of ipecacuanha, opium in powder, and potassium sulfate. The powder was largely used in domestic practice to induce sweating, to defeat the advance of a cold, and at the beginning of any attack of fever.
