Title with engraved oval portrait of Horace. Contemporary vellum, paneled in blind with raised bands; (title thumb-soiled, worming to lower margins worst at final few quires; modern endpapers, hinges strengthened, upper joint cracked at head and foot, covers slightly bowed). Otto Vaenius was a painter, draughtsman, and humanist flourishing in Brussels in the late 16th and early 17th century. He is known for running a large studio in Antwerp, producing several emblem books, and for being Peter Paul Rubens’s teacher from 1594 to 1598.
