Splendidly illustrated with 12 full page Victorian chromolithographic plates and further by monochrome drawings, vignettes, decorations, etc en texte. Covers and spine mildly rubbed. Corners bumped. Contents somewhat mildly shaken but extremely firm and tight. The majority of monochrome illustrations have been hand coloured, presumably by a fairly talented child. Most of this colouring is quite deftly executed although there are several examples of a less practiced hand. Overall this coloring is quite unobtrusive and often pleasant. Several pages present small chips to corner. A Very Good, bright copy of this most desireable and elusive Victorian title.Featured Children.

Included with the abbreviated text are many pages of ads, as well as several pages from what is apparently a journal/diary/ledger contemporary with the book. ( Fascinating glimpses into everyday life)This book was apparently available in 2 bindings , full calf and ornate gilt cloth ( which this is). Examples of the backstrips for both bindings are laid down on inside front cover. Also included are several of the publisher's agents guarantee and publicity slips. All in all, a delightfully scarce curiosity. Very Fine.

The poem first appeared a month earlier, (October, 1922.), in The Criterion Magazine. This appearance preceded any publication of the poem in book form.
