This Wallace Collection Catalogue is for "FURNITURE ": Text With Historical Notes and Illustration;" and was published with a red paper cover in 1956. The text and notes are by F.J.B. Watson, B.A., F.S.A. 360 p., immaculate and unmarked anywhere--not ex-lib., no former owner's name--plus 120 plates on strong glossy paper, not age-toned; binding tight; shelf-wear minimal but slight tanning of edges; price label of "One Guinea" affixed to front of wrapper, which bears stamped emblem "Crown Copyright Reserved." Includes a glossary, list of principal woods used in marquetry, works of reference, key, index of artists and craftsmen, subject index.

Frederick Warne and Co. hardcover. Acceptable. 0x0x0. There is no pub. date, so this could possibly be earlier than 1880--boards match those of the first ed., ca. 1873, but are dark red rather than green--the clear gilt lettering and design are identical; errata slip might help date this printing. Spine cracked at first gutter, and front board, rubbed at edges but quite good otherwise, is loose; back board firmly attached; spine quite abraded; 4to; within there are unnumbered (count is 75) pages, on very fine, strong , unmarked paper. There are small smudges and stains, more severe on blank front end pages, but none mar the exquisite full-page, full-color ill. These are perfection and with skillful repair of the binding this volume would be very fine.

F. Warne & Col., London, n.d. (ca. 1870). Acceptable. Costumes depicted on color plates within suggest late1860's. Book was meant to be a cut-out book for children but only one of the six plates has been touched--and that has a large open tear on one corner rather than any attempt to cut out any of the depicted objects. The wrapper is smudged and dog-eared, particularly the back of the wrapper with list of "Warne's Nursery literature" with a small open tear and four closed tears--some stains. There are smudges on margins of the plates but all but the torn one are beautiful and unfaded, and suitable for framing.
