New York: Random House, 1951. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Author. First Trade Edition, First state, with dark grey top-edge in the First Issue Dust Jacket [E. McKnight Kauffer misspelled, $3.00 price]. 8vo., 286pp. A fine copy. [No indication of edition stated as called for]. Nicely signed by Faulkner in black fountain pen at the top of the front free endpaper. Quarter-bound in black cloth over sea green cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. A very nice example of this work; a play, with long narrative sections, continuing the story of Temple Drake introduced two decades earlier in 'Sanctuary'. Faulkner's first book after winning the Nobel Prize. "I Decline to accept the end of man. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice but he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance". W.F. - Nobel Speech. While signed limited editions abound, signed trade editions are very uncommon as…

First Edition, First Printing, variant with "Henry Frowde" at base of spine, no established priority, but likely intended for the colonial market. A very good copy, gilt bright on spine, some modest wear and soiling, book block a little loose as often with this bulky volume, bookplate on front pastedown and some corresponding offsetting on front endpaper. An excellent copy, much nicer than usually found. Translated by Constance Garnett.

George Allen & Unwin; Unwin Hyman; Harper Collins. London. 1983 - 1996. FIRST EDITIONS. 1st impressions. 8vo. 13 volumes. A complete set of the 12 volume History of Middle Earth plus the extra Unfinished Tales volume. Original publishers boards in different colours but all with uniform gilt lettering to the spines. In the original multi colour dustwrappers. A couple of very minor rubs to the extremities of a couple of dustwrappers but overall a very near fine, bright and clean set of this first publication of Tolkien's entire History of Middle Earth, in which tales, songs, poems, maps, illustrations, genealogical tables, and even linguistic primers for Tolkien's languages, give the fullest picture available of one of the most thoroughly imagined worlds ever created in the history of fantasy literature. Black Sparrow Press, 1971. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Copy #16 of 250 numbered hardcover copies signed by Charles Bukowski. This copy has great provenance - being Bill Katz's copy, with facsimiles of two pre-publication letters from publisher John Martin to Katz (from December 1970 and January 1971), discussing Katz's prior pivotal review of 'The Days Run Away...' in Library Journal, which Martin credited for making the sale of the book, and discussing sending proofs of 'Post Office' to Katz, hoping for another Library Journal review. Katz in fact did write the review, the results of which Bukowski credited with helping him to become a full-time writer. This copy also includes the original Black Sparrow review slip, with Black Sparrow's note in pencil 'First novel - Bill Katz / dup. on shelf.' Also includes a facsimile of a carbon copy of Katz's letter to Bukowski presenting his personal view of 'Post Office' (as oposed to the review). A very near to fine copy of this important work, in…

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. Description:
New York: Random House, 1959. Book. Illus. by Sam March (dust jacket design). Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. Small octavo. Humes's second novel, following 'The Underground City,' both of which led to his being considered by Esquire magazine as having the same promise as two obscure guys named Updike and Styron (whoever they are). Anyway, he met a guy named Leary who introduced him to a little substance known as LSD, and after seriously indulging his fondness for the hallucinogen he became a trifle paranoid and a bit delusional, which pretty much ended his writing career. Humes was co-founder (with Peter Matthiessen and George Plimpton) of The Paris Review. He died of prostate cancer in 1992. Black cloth w/gilt lettering, 184 pages. Mildly cocked, light general wear, in price-clipped dust jacket w/light rubbing, light edgewear, creases to fore-edges of both flaps..
