About This Item
Circa 1875 edition of popular captivity narrative. Nelson & Phillips, New York. Spencer was 11 when captured in 1792. Brown blindstamped cloth, gilt title on spine. Condition is Very Good: Recased using original boards sometime in last 40 years. Modern endpapers. No interior writing, occasional foxing, some smudges, old corner folds. Small hole pp.13/14 affecting a few letters. Binding is sound. 160 pages with 4 plates and 4 engravings embedded in text all included in pagination. Contents bound at end as usual with this book. The plates and engravings are same topics and locations as the 1842 edition but are by a different engraver. True first edition is 1835 in either New York or Pennsylvania. See Howes S843; Ayer 272; Field 1470; Graff 3930 and OCLC: 35730821. Please see images of the book you will receive. Notes: putting an accurate date on this edition is problematic. Nelson began publishing in 1854 so definitely after that. WorldCat suggests "187?" which is reasonable looking at materials used. So circa 1875.
