About This Item
London : Victor Gollancz, 1964. First edition. "This yarn of the great art conspiracy that went wrong is just about the best Innes since his very early days. Suspense and satire struggle mightily for supremacy" (Liverpool Daily Post, 7th October 1964). "Here Innes writes with his best skill and uncommon directness" (Barzun & Taylor). Post 8vo (21cm). 192pp. Original red boards, lettered in gilt; a hint of tanning to the front endpaper, but otherwise a very good copy in the dust-jacket - the jacket with some slight reinforcement at head, some minor wear, and a couple of tiny nicks. Bookseller's label of the Austral Bookshop of Melbourne to front pastedown.
