About This Item

New York / Washington, D. C. ( Speech ): Frederick A. Stokes Co. / Government Printing Office (speech), 1910. First Edition. Hard Cover / Staple Bound (Sp). Good/No Jacket. TWO items included: 1) The North Pole"": Hardcover/ no DJ; both Good+ to VG condition. First Edition, 1st printing- ""September, 1910"" boxed w/ publisher's FAS logo on copyright page, same year on title page. 373 pages, 9.75"" x 7"", frontis w/ tissue protector, numerous color & b/w photos, 6 panel color fold-out map at back, top edge of text block bright gold gilt. Blue cloth binding tight & square w/ some rubbing, soil, light fraying at ends of spine- none severe. Gold title on front crisp & bright w/ sm. scuff obscuring part of O & L in ""POLE""- pretty minor (about 20% of O, 10% of L). Gold spine lettering tarnished or a little rubbed but totally legible. Copy displays well. Beautiful old owner bookplate dated 1914 inside front cover, neatly pencilled sm. gift note dated 1910 in corner of half title page. Front pastedown endpaper shows partial vert. split near hinge, but NOT on hinge & no fabric exposed - text & binding totally tight. Text still bright w/ just a hint of toning. Map a bit fragile w/ sm. splits at some folds, but all together & colors crisp- appears little used. 2) Moore's Speech: 36 pages, paper, staple bound, 9"" x 6"", Washington, D.C., 1910. Clean & unmarked w/ little wear. Sm. wrinkle/ chip at bottom of front page, little to no staple rust, very lightly toned, pages NOT brittle. Laid- in (NOT attached), as found. Both items are handsome & well preserved- a very nice complementary combination. I don't think you will be disappointed.
