Much of his slender work offers a comparison of the two sides on factors ranging from the airplanes used to the effectiveness of their antiaircraft fire, with only the last few pages devoted to a summary of the carrier battles themselves. With a short but useful guide to further works at the end of the book, this is a useful introduction to the Second World War in the Pacific, one that might make a nice gift for the reader just beginning to learn about the subject.
