Signed with a dedication to Helen Dresser - a Random House Representative. It is very rare to find a signed book by Janet Frame.

Original blue cloth and gilt titling on spine sunned. Boards tanned, mainly around edges. Top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges of pages untrimmed and some remain unopened. Bookplate tipped in on front end-paper. Copy number 555 signed by Huxley on page between half-title and title page. Binding sound. Text clean throughout except barely noticable tanning where dust-jacket inserted as page marker (!)
Rare, unclipped (42/-) cream dust-jacket creased in three places where folded and inserted, with pencilled notes erased from front top outer corner. Edges tanned, marginal wear, some spotting, but complete.

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1961 Illstd with b&w photos. SIGNED BY EDMUND HILLARY ON THE TITLE PAGE. The book is near fine, just very faint foxing in the endpapers. Dust jacket is intact and bright, protected in a fitted clear film sleeve.

Dust-jacket protected in archival mylar cover. ; First New Zealand edition (previously published in the UK by W. H. Allen). This copy signed by the author in blue in on the title page "Janet Frame". No other signatures. 206 pages. Mauve-grey boards with gilt lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 196 x 125mm. "The Rainbirds" is a novel Frame wrote while she held the Robert Burns Fellowship at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. The first edition was the 1967 UK edition. It was later published by her American publisher George Braziller with her preferred title "Yellow Flowers in the Antipodean Room".
