Original green half cloth over cream boards, illustrated Travel Book Club wrappers (with flaws and restorations); pp. [2], 372, highly illustrated with photographic plates, text illustrations and one large folding map at the end; a little offsetting from toned endpapers, here and there light marginal spotting, faint onership insription to front fly-leaf; otherwise very good. Sheets of the first edition in a Travel Book Club binding and the rarely seen wrappers. 'Account of an expedotion under G. N. Humphreys to explore Grant Land, northern Ellesmere Island; the voyage to North Greenland, forced wintering at Etah due to ice blocking the Smith Sound route; sledge trip, hunting, dog driving' (Arctic Bibliography). The geographer and later Labour politician Edward Arthur Alexander Shackleton was a son of Sir Ernest Shackleton and had been in charge of organizing the expedition. - Preface by John Buchan under the preudonym Tweedsmuir.
