About This Item

(Bloemfontein: unpublished dissertation, 1989). 8vo; brown skivertex, lettered in gilt on upper cover; pp. (ii) + iii + 63 + (xi); printed rectos; incl. facsimiles of Education Charter Campaign and Congress of South African Students flyers. Fine condition. Afrikaans text. This paper was presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for an MA degree in the Department of History at the University of the Orange Free State. It concerns the student unrest that occurred in the Free State Goldfields in the wake of political developments such as South Africa's new constitution, the Nkomati Accord, and the ANC's strategy to make the country ungovernable, along with economic factors affecting the Thabong area in particular. The events are seen as typical of the unrest occurring throughout South Africa at the time. .
