About This Item

Siena: appresso Emilio Bonetti, 1626. Book. Very Good. Full Vellum. First Edition. 4to. Two works bound together, both in Italian, the first particularly scarce. Superb contemporary or near contemporary binding of vellum spine with hand-printed and coloured patterned, parchment boards, later red calf label of the "Board of Agriculture" to the front board, dated 1801, manuscript title and old paper shelf no. label to the spine. All edges marbled. [First Title] pp. [8], 203, [1]. Title page with printer's woodcut device, dated 1626, several woodcut tailpieces and initial letters, fine woodcut vignette to the final page. Very scarce, no copies on Copac, just one copy located at the University of Sienna library. [Second Title] pp. [32], 368 + several blanks. Half title and title pages both present, title page dated 1677, with oval vignette; woodcut headpieces. Binding a little worn and rubbed, but strong, some age soiling. Contents very good, a little worming to the first 5 leaves of the first work, a few headlines close shaved but no apparent loss. Very good copies of two works on Agriculture, the first particularly rare, bound in a very attractive patterned contemporary or near contemporary binding. Please contact us for further details..
