About This Item

London: Gerald Duckworth & Co. Ltd. Good+ in Good dust jacket. 1960. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 'Brick' coloured boards with bright silver-gilt titling, and fish decoration to the spine. In the original publisher's pictorial, Bateman illustrated, dustjacket. At some point the edges of this book have been near to somewhere damp and the top fron and rear edge of the book shows a little former exposure to damp - ie: slight darkening/discolouration but overall the books' covers are VG. The dustjacket has suffered the same fate and a former owner has internally strengthened the dustjacket with some light masking tape overlapping it to the front of the d/j at the corners and head/tail of the spine. The d/j however is complete and apart from discoloured patches to the rear covers' edge and the inner edges of the flaps it looks near VG as it is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks much improved. Internally the damp staining affects the edges of the blank margins until the end of the Foreward and similarly a couple of blank edges at the end of the book. There is also a little light foxing (brown spotting) to the front endpapers, however there are NO Inscriptions or other Marks, and overall the book is VERY Clean, Tight and Bright - all hinges secure - and apart from this light staining is actually a near VG copy but I have to downgrade it for these faults. An excellent reading copy to enjoy and keep but due to the problems mentioned above - NOT for a picky collector. 136 pp. Illustrated throughout the text with b/w sketches by Bateman - delightful! . " In the evening of his life H. M. Bateman, the famous Punch artist, gives us the "evening rise" of his thoughts and memories about fly fishing. For Fifty years fishing has been his recreation, his hobby, his skill and his passion." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
