Boston & New York: Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1902. John Fiske (1842-1901), an American historian and philosopher, popularized Darwin. He saw no conflict between evolution and religion, but in another area he was inconsistent. Although a fervent Abolutionist, he also harbored racist theories that would find fruition in eugenics theory. Originally published in 1883, this is a reprint issued as part of the "Standard Library Edition" in twelve volumes; this is Volume VII of that series. Despite his popularity, his work is uncommon tody. Red cloth binding, ruled in gilt and with a reproduced signature on the front cover, gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 365 pages, indexed.Top edge is gilt. Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine condition. Just some light rub to the margins, else a Fine copy. No dustjacket.. Reprint Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
