About This Item

Removed from a bound volume with scuffing at spine and binding cord exposed, octavo, pp. 36. A one inch vertical tear with no loss from top edge of title page downward, near spine. A small hole, also near spine, exists about two inches up from bottom edge. About GOOD condition, withal, and please see images for our best attempts at close-ups of these two faults. The General Catalogue occupies the first page through page 25, where there is a Summary. The Annual Catalogue runs from pp. 26-36. Noteworthy in the General Catalogue is the inclusion on the Trustee list of John Sawyer, Kiah Bayley (misspelled here as "Baily"); Eliphalet Gillet; and William Jenks, all instrumental in the founding of the Seminary, originally known as the Maine Charity School. Reverend Bayley wrote the actual charter, in fact, and his manuscript document resides in the Massachusetts State Archive. Also of note is Professor of Ecclesiastical History, Reverend Enoch Pond. An uncommon item, both in trade and institutional holdings, with a 2023 OCLC search returning American Antiquarian Society only. Protected in a clear display sleeve with white card-stock backing board. See Williamson, Bibliography State of Maine, Volume 1, Number 601.
