About This Item
Removed from a bound volume, octavo, pp. 28. Scuffing along spine, and a dull old vertical crease (as though folded long ago for insertion into a jacket pocket?) but GOOD condition and done-up skillfully by printer Smith. Of interest here is the listing of noted theologian Enoch Pond as Professor of Ecclesiastical History. Also of note are John Sawyer, Eliphalet Gillet, and Kiah Bayley among the Trustees. These three and several others were instrumental in the founding of the Seminary, which was initially the Maine Charity School. Indeed, the manuscript charter document (in Massachusetts State Archives) is in the hand of Reverend Bayley. Uncommon in trade or institutional holdings, with a 2023 OCLC search returning American Antiquarian Society and Library Company of Philadelphia only. Protected in a clear display sleeve with white card-stock backing-board. See Williamson, Bibliography State of Maine, Volume 1, Number 595.
