About This Item
Hardcover first edition, published by Doubleday, 1943. No dust jacket. 320 pages, with Appendix. The 25th anniversary collection of award winning stories. Included are stories by Eudora Welty, Dorothy Canfield, Pearl Buck, Walter Van Tilburg Clark, Carson McCullers, James Thurber, William Saroyan, and several others. This copy has no former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Dark blue boards with the title on the spine, all lettering on the spine is still legible. Boards are flat and the corners are not bumped or creased. Some minor edge wear to the left side at the gutters, both front and back, and to the bottom edge. Edges of the text block are relatively clean. This is a WWII era book, so the paper stock is somewhat lower quality than usual. One short closed tear at the top of the last blank flyleaf, about one inch long. The attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
