An Attractive Portrait, Apparently Of Geirge Orwel Circa 1932L, Leaning On His Left Hand And Staring Somewhat Belligerently But Resignedly At Viewer, Left Hand Has Not Been Finished. This Appears To Be A Portrait Of A Younger Orwell Than Usually Seen, Circa Early 1930'S, An Intense Young Man With A Small Mustache, Eyebrows Thinner And Higher Than Usually Seen, But With His Distinctive Right Ear Present. The Portrait Is Not Clearly Orwell In The 1920'S Or 1940'S, But Compares Favorably With The Few Early 1930'S Photographs Of Him That We Have Seen. Unmarked As To Subject, Not Clearly Identified As Orwell. Provenance Murky; From A California… Read More

Description:
The first-ever appearance in print of James Joyce's Story for Children, THE CATS OF COPENHAGEN in a special limited edition of 200 copies.
Michael Caine has printed this large-format letterpress edition with virtuoso skill, setting the text in a wondrously expressive array of original, early twentieth-century hand-cut Italian and French founts to capture the imagination of readers young and old. Casey Sorrow has brought to life Joyce's curious 'Københavnere' with ingeniously playful pen-and-ink drawings, specially commissioned, and printed by typographique cliché.
This Numbered issue, printed on Fedrigoni Freelife Vellum, is in double-elephant sextos and hand-bound in one-quarter cloth over marbled boards.

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
