About This Item

Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., 1943. Hardcover. VG+/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. The original price of $3.00 is still present on the front flap. The book includes a taped in piece of paper that has the Colonel's signature on it. DJ shows some scuffing and spotting and there are two tears present - both on the front. The largest one is in the upper left and you can see a darkened area where someone had taped it underneath (the tape dried out and fell off) and there is a smaller tear near the lower right corner. Green cloth boards underneath the clean with the only issues being a couple light corner bumps. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. There is a bookplate on the front pastedown but there is no handwriting in the book, at least on the pages. The only bad part in the book is where this signature is taped in: the half title page has a newspaper clipping of the Colonel's photo and below that is a piece of paper that was cut out of possibly an envelope in which has the signature Carlos P. Romulo written in pencil. Unfortunately, the original owner's taped it in, so the tape has turned brown over the many years. There are several other newspaper clippings from 1942, one has come loose from the page where was originally taped in. These newspaper clippings has turned the book pages brown over time. This issue only affects the two sides of the pages shown in one of the pictures.

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
