About This Item
Nashville: Rutledge Hill Press, 1995. Hardcover. 4to. Full grey leatherette with gilt lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 180pp. Extensive color illustrations, maps, pictorial endpapers. Fine/fine. Handsome first trade edition -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to inner flyleaf is a great content Typed Letter Signed from Robertson, 1p, 8" X 10½", Washington, DC, 24 February 1965. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Very good. On "Civil War Centennial Commission" letterhead (which Robertson served as executive director), Robertson tells Gates, a long-time officer of the New York Civil War Round Table, "I am happy to inform you that the Civil War Round Table of New York has been selected to receive this Commission's highest award, The Centennial Medallion, for its extraordinary contributions in furthering the study of the Civil War and the observance of its centenary. This award is made by unanimous vote of our Subcommittee on Awards, and with the full occurrence of the Commission's Executive Committee. I need not emphasize that during the Centennial the National Commission has selected only a small number of recipients for The Centennial Medallion.... please accept my personal and sincere congratulations on an honor well-deserved." Signed boldly in full in black ink. Robertson (1930-2019) wrote and edited a goodly number of hardcore Civil War titles, but is best remembered as a prize-winning Stonewall Jackson scholar.
