Two volumes, complete, two-toned buckram, slipcase has some wear and a bump in one of the top corners, still very good. Books in very good condition, with previous owner's gift inscription in front pastedown of Volume 1. No other writing found. First trade edition, first state. In the first state, Chapter XIV on page 507 begins with Alice instead of For Alice This grammatical error was corrected in the next printing. Herd 1318. Bound in the publisher's original cloth facsimile of the saddle blankets woven and used on the King Ranch. Slipcase covered in cloth with a leather spine label. The inner hinges of Volume I have been torn. The spine label on the slipcase has rubbing wear.

Signed with an inscription by Belton Johnson, a King Ranch family member, one of 250 First Editions reoffered by The Book Club of Texas in 1992 to its members. Ten Appendices and Sources at the end of Volume 1 with a beautiful two page color map of The Ranch. Some faint staining to the outside of the slipcase, otherwise tight and clean. The special edition of this important ranch history, printed on rag paper with the Running W Brand watermark, after a design by Carl Hertzog, for distribution on a private basis by the ranch owners. Although 3000 sets were printed, the exclusivity of distribution accounts for the relative scarcity of copies on the market. As new, unread copy with the original prospectus laid-in along with an addressed mailing postcard. Housed in the original cloth slipcase with titles stamped on a leather spine label.
