About This Item
This is a French-language edition of "L'Art Japonais (JAPANESE ART)" by Louis Gonse. Circa early 1900's (there is no date of publication stated); Societe Francaise D'Editions D'Art; Paris. The book is written entirely in French. Richly illustrated with drawings throughout (some of which are full-page). Ribbon page marker. The contents are as follows: La Peinture ("The Painting"); L'Architecture ("Architecture"); La Sculpture ("The Sculpture"); La Ciselure ("The Carving"); Les Laques ("Lacquers"); Les Tissus ("Tissues"); La Ceramique ("Ceramics"); Les Estampes ("Prints"). There is a Table of Contents at the back.
Condition:
Light soiling to the covers and spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a crack at the rear hinge before the last end paper - despite the crack, the back cover is still firmly attached and is not shaky. The pages are age-toned, though not brittle. There are occasional pencil notations/underlines to the pages; a few random pages were found with a small tear at the outer edge. Overall the book is in Very Good- condition. (Note - the softcover issue is bound within hardcovers...I'm unsure whether this is as-issued, or was custom-bound; there is a label on the hardcover spine with the author and title.)
