About This Item
New York: Walker and Companyy, 1972. Minor creasing and a couple of small tears to edges of price-clipped dustwrapper, minor bumping to spine ends of brown boards, original owner's gift message on half-title, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book. The author's account of his life among the Eskimo people of the Canadian Arctic between the mid 1950s and late 1960s when he worked for the Hudson's Bay Company. 285pp, 8pp colour illustrations, endpaper map.. First US Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
Reviews
On May 6 2005, Lyleford said:
Pryde's account of his 10 years among the indigenous people of Perry Island and other parts of the Canadian Arctic as a fur trader for the Hudson Bay Company. Aside from some dated attitudes regarding sex, gender roles, and race, this is mainly a respectful and personal account of a white man encountering a unique culture and harsh climate. Includes much information about Inuit material culture and customs.
