About This Item

From quotes on the back dust jacket:

"Barbara Tuchman's best book...so large in scope, so crammed with information, so clear in exposition, so assured in tone that one is tempted to say it is not a book but an education." - Naomi Bliven, The New Yorker"An extraordinary book about a truly remarkable soldier...real and moving...certainly deserves reading by all Americans." - General James M. Gavin

From the front dust jacket flap: This book "is a brilliant narrative history and superb biography - at once the story of our number-one man in China, the fabulous 'Vinegar Joe,' and of the American relation to China over three decades, from the fall of the Manchu empire to the rise of Mao Tse-tung."

Book - Good+ condition. Black cloth over boards with silver gilt on spine. Previous owner's name in ink on page before title page. I noted 3 pages that had small corner creases at the top. Text is clean. Binding is tight. There are black & white photo inserts.

Dust Jacket - Good condition. Soft crease at bottom front. Small chips/closed tears at top and bottom spine. Some edge/corner wear.
A good reading copy.
Please use photos as part of the description.

621 pages including Index. Thick book.
