About This Item

New York: Doubleday, Page & Co, 1913. The Authorized edition of the works of William Sydney Porter, better known by his pen name O. Henry. Octavos, 12 volumes bound in full morocco with gilt titles to the spine, gilt initials to the front panel, top edge gilt, pictorial endpapers, tissue-guarded frontispieces, illustrated. In very good condition. Better known by his pen name O. Henry, American writer William Sydney Porter became known for the plot twists and surprise endings in his playfully narrated short stories. Many of O. Henry's stories take place in New York City and deal for the most part with ordinary people: often policemen, waitresses, or cattle-ranchers in small towns.
