Softcover, bound in yellow wraps illustrated with 11 vignettes framing the title on the front cover, including one depicting boys playing baseball (or possibly cricket). The covers are soiled with a few minor stains. The lower edge of the spine is split with a small tear extending into the front cover and a tiny chip along the rear cover. 24 pages, illustrated with a title page vignette, and 6 wood engravings on 3 pages. There is foxing throughout with a stain to the front edge of the title page. Good. "Babcock's Moral, Instructive and Amusing Toy Books" series.The American Antiquarian society has identified the text as "typographically identical to an issue dated 1841".

Very good. - A 2-1/4 inch high by 3-1/2 inch wide slip of cream-colored paper is signed "Irving Bacheller". 2 pieces of tape adhere to the verso where the autograph has been removed from an album. Very good. In the mid-1880s journalist and author Irving Bacheller [1859-1950] founded the Bacheller Syndicate, the first modern newspaper syndicate in the United States,Through this business,which provided specialized articles to the major Sunday newspapers, he brought to American readers the writing of such British authors as Joseph Conrad, Arthur Conan Doyle and Rudyard Kipling. He also established a working relationship with young author and journalist Stephen Crane whose "The Red Badge of Courage" became famous after it appeared in syndication. Bacheller was also the author of several successful novels.

Very good. First edition.The book is a commentary by Nicolaus Bachius on fragments by the Greek elegiac poet Mimnermus. It is followed by emendations to Bachius' 1825 book on Solon the poet. The Hellenistic poets regarded Mimnermus as the founder of the love elegy genre. Only fragments of his poetry survive.The poet's text is in Greek with the commentary in Latin.

Boldly inscribed by heavyweight champion Max Baer to Billy Farley, likely the boxer who won 2 bouts back in 1904-05: "Billy Farley - Hello 'Champ' Your pal Max Baer 1950".The world heavyweight champion from June 1934 to 1935, Max Baer (1909-1959) won the title by defeating Max Schmeling in 1933. He subsequently lost to James Braddock in 1935. Both fights were named "Fight of the Year" by "The Ring" magazine. Baer went on to referee boxing matches and performed in occasional film and television roles.
